In 1958, brothers Jerry and Al Lapin and Albert and Trudy Kallis founded International House of Pancakes (IHOP) in Los Angeles, CA suburb Toluca Lake. As the name denotes, they serve all kind of pancakes but also other breakfast food, lunch and dinner items. IHOP acquired Applebees in 2007 and the two chains became the largest fullservice restaurant company in the world with 1,500 locations for IHOP and over 2,000 for Applebees. Breakfast is served all day and diners can chose from a long list of omelettes, stuffed French Toast, waffles, crepes, pancake combos or the famous Rooty Tooty Fresh N Fruity which comes with two eggs, two bacon strips, two sausage links and two pancakes covered with fruit compote. The menu consists of a widearray of pancakes, of course, such as New York Cheesecake Pancakes and a healthier alternative, Harvest Grain N Nut. If customers arent in the mood for breakfast, they can order from a variety of soups, salads, dinner entrees and dishes from their Simple and Fit 600 calories and under menu. Every year IHOP gives back to the community engaging in National Pancake Day where they give away free pancakes to customers and raise money for charity.
