The largest and most recognized hamburger chain in the world, McDonalds has conquered the marketplace selling everything from Big Macs to smoothies for the past 55 years. Brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald opened their first restaurant in San Bernardino, California in 1940 as a drivethru barbecue joint. In 1955, Illinois native Ray Kroc came along and purchased the chain from the brothers and opened his first McDs restaurant in 1955 in Des Plaines, Illinois, which mainly served fries, burgers and shakes. Today, the golden arches graces about 119 countries, serves 58 million people daily and has over 30,000 locations worldwide. The menu includes signature snacks like Big Macs, chicken McNuggets, Egg McMuffin breakfast sandwiches, 1 menu items, Super Sized meals, Happy Meals and their McCafe line of coffee drinks and real fruit smoothies. For family fun, McDs clown mascot Ronald McDonalds smiling face greets customers and the PlayPlace playgrounds enable kids to work off some of their energy.
